Steve Davis - Snooker Player's Profile

English pool and snooker player Steve Davis is one of the biggest snooker players of all times. Known as The Nugget, Interesting, Ginger Magician and Romford Slim, Steve Davis is the holder of the biggest number of snooker titles. Steve Davis, who is most recognized with the 1980s golden age of snooker, is still an active snooker player.

Since Steve Davis had launched his professional snooker career in 1978, he won in 18 major snooker tournaments including 6 World Championships, 6 UK Championships and about 45 non-ranking snooker events. He was ranked number 1 for seven years. Currently, at the age of 49, Steve Davis is ranked number 11.

As aforesaid, the pick of Steve Davis career was during the 1980s, a period of time often described as the "Golden Age of Snooker". By 1982, he won several snooker titles but his popularity grew after he had reached the maximum 147 break on a live TV broadcast.

Another unforgettable moment in Steve Davis career was his match against Dennis Taylor on the final event of the 1985 World Championship, in which he had finally lost to Taylor. About 18 million people were watching that snooker match on TV.

Steve Davis last World Championship victory in 1989 had marked the end of an era in snooker history. However, Davis is still active in the worlds of professional snooker and 9-ball pool. He plans to continue playing snooker professionally until his 50th birthday, which is due to 2007 August.
