Snooker Table Etiquette

When you are playing snooker at your private billiard room or taking part in an online snooker site, you don't have to worry about any house rules or snooker table etiquette. You can wear whatever you want, smoke whenever you feel like and put your drinks wherever. But, when you are playing snooker in a public snooker club or at your local pub, there is a certain pool table etiquette that has to be followed.

For an enjoyable snooker game and a pleasant billiard playing atmosphere, check out this guide to snooker table etiquette. You can find here useful tips on how to behave when playing snooker, pool or billiards in public.

Some pool table etiquettes such as smoking, dress code or age limit, for example, can vary from one billiard room to another. In addition, different places can have different house rules when it comes to games rules. Therefore, it is advisable to verify these rules before knocking on that snooker hall's doors.

Some other pool table etiquettes are more general and it is recommended for you to adopt them whether you are intending to play a game of snooker at the nearest snooker club or you are about to attend a private pool party.

Here are some basic do's and don'ts in a public pool hall:
  • Don't place your drink on the table. Try to avoid placing your drink even on the edge of the table. The drink most likely to be spilled all over the expensive table felt at some point of the game.

  • Don't do anything that can break the concentration of the other players as they shoot.

  • Don't scream, even if potting the black ball makes you very happy.

  • Don't make loud conversations with your friends when you are too close to an active snooker table.

  • Do stay as far as possible from the shooter's line of sight.

  • Do pay attention to the tables nearby. If the pool room is not spacious enough, one hasty move can have an influence on your neighbors play.

  • Do use your common sense and basic courtesy.
